Spell Check Doesn't Work in Microsoft Word

If you get an error when you run spell check, you may need to troubleshoot Word.

When you run spell check and it doesn't work as expected, take the following steps.

  1. Hit Ctrl+A to select the entire document and then, from the menu, choose ToolsLanguageSet Language. Choose your language, and uncheck the two options at the bottom. Hit OK.

Tip: If you spellcheck after performing these steps and still get a message saying that some text was not checked, you'll need to perform these same steps in your headers and footers.

  1. Again from the menu, choose ToolsOptions, Spelling and Grammar tab. Hit the Recheck Document button, and hit OK.

  1. Run spell check again.
