What makes this occur in Microsoft Word? You've got WordPerfect settings turned on!
This occurs when you attempt to delete text, and nothing is deleted, but you do get a message on your status bar that looks like this:
Just go to ToolsŕOptions, General tab, and untick the two items for WordPerfect users.
