Many people believe that Microsoft applications can be downloaded, and this isn't quite true.
You may be able to download the latest trial version, such as Office 2003 or you can see the list of individual applications trial versions.
Or you may be able to download the free OpenOffice Suite, which will quite nicely allow you to view, edit, and save files that are fairly convertible with Microsoft Office, but nothing too fancy, mind you.
Or you may wish to download the smallest and least-intrusive "viewers". Click on the application name to be directed to the page from which you can download the viewer:
