Can't Format Cells After Converting in Microsoft Excel

Sometimes, when converting files from another application, such as Quattro Pro or MultiPlan, cell formatting is unavailable.

This is because the worksheet converts protected for some reason, even if the source files weren't protected. Just unprotect the sheet(s) and continue working.
